Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog is a mid-toned gray green that makes for an interesting kitchen cabinet choice, with its shifting undertone.

It has been a few years since Sherwin Williams chose Evergreen Fog as their color of the year (2022), so we now have some great examples of this color on kitchen cabinets! Let’s browse over some inspiration from real homes, and then look at hardware and countertop choices.
Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog on Kitchen Cabinets in Real Homes
Let’s start with establishing a “typical” look for Evergreen Fog. In this kitchen makeover by Bethany from @reclaimed_cottage, you can see how Evergreen Fog looks in different lighting:

- Above the fridge you can see a darker and warmer look for this color
- On the well lit side of the island, we see a pretty standard look for Evergreen Fog
- In the lightest part of the kitchen (lower cabinets, far wall) we see the lightest that this color gets, but still the undertone here is very typical
This next picture is also fairly typical, but for artificial light:

In this next picture we see the cabinets looking a bit warmer:

…followed by Evergreen Fog looking a little bit cooler:

In that last photo the cabinets look more like Benjamin Moore Carolina Gull.
While we’re on the topic of this color looking darker, here is a look at Evergreen Fog where it looks quite dark and quite gray:

There is still definitely a muted green undertone in this kitchen, but it looks pretty gray. I go back and forth on whether the undertone here is warm or cool, so I’m going to say it’s pretty neutral.
In this kitchen remodel by the team at The Finishing Room (@thefinishingroommke), they took the cabinets from dated wood, to fabulous sage:

Again this is a pretty standard look for Evergreen Fog.
In this next kitchen by the team at Residence Design, we see mostly a lighter look to Evergreen Fog, but we will start with something typical:

This does look like Evergreen Fog still, but on the lighter side. Next we see something that looks a bit lighter and brighter than normal:

If you really like how this looks at face value, you might like Sherwin Williams Clary Sage better than Evergreen Fog. This next photo also looks more like Clary Sage:

These next two pictures look sort of like Evergreen Fog, but more similar to Benjamin Moore October Mist:

Evergreen Fog on a Kitchen Island
Considering a two-tone kitchen look with Evergreen Fog? Check out this delightful example from @btbuilderstx:

The wall cabinets are Sherwin Williams Gossamer Veil, and the island is Evergreen Fog. They also used Evergreen Fog on the custom range hood:

It looks creamy white here, but Gossamer Veil is actually a light greige.
Evergreen Fog at 50% (Mixed at Half Strength)
I don’t very often have examples of colors at different strengths, but we do get to see Evergreen Fog at 50%, thanks to btbuilders!

The kitchen pictures do look edited a little bit to be even more muted, so bear that in mind:

They also used this color on the cabinets in the butler’s pantry:

If you like how this looks, you might like Sherwin Williams Sea Salt or Comfort Gray.
What Color Hardware Goes with Evergreen Fog Cabinets?
Silver Hardware
Most people who have used Evergreen Fog for their kitchen cabinets have gone with a simple silver or light pewter hardware:

This is definitely a classic look.
Gold or Brass Hardware
While I do suspect warm hardware might be on its way out (could be wrong, because warm colors surely aren’t), I really like the idea of a champagne or light gold hardware with Evergreen Fog:

I really like how the warmer colors pop against the green. The only reason I think the warm metals could be waning in popularity, is because they have been back in style for quite a while now.
Black Hardware
Finally, some homeowners have leaned into the moodiness, and paired Evergreen Fog with black hardware:

This is definitely a more specific look. It’s giving moody, broody, cozy cottage.
Contertop Choices to Pair with Evergreen Fog Kitchen Cabinets
Since I’m fairly sure that white stone countertops are the top choice regardless of cabinet color, it’s not really a surprise that most people pair Evergreen Fog with white countertops.

Personally, I do think this is the move. Evergreen Fog isn’t a dark paint color, but it is significantly darker than most traditional kitchen cabinet colors.
Evergreen Fog does look nice with dark countertops, but it could be a LOT of dark. I think you could pull this off in a small kitchen where you have good natural light and lighter walls. This kitchen is a great example with black countertops:

In a very large kitchen it would be overwhelming (in my opinion).
Well I hope this helped you decide on your kitchen cabinet color! Thanks so much for reading until the end, that really helps my blog. Still not sure? Here are some other posts to help:
