Farrow & Ball makes beautiful paint colors, but it can be tricky to get your hands on them! Their shade Peignoir is a beautiful taupey mauve that is both unexpected and timeless.

Let’s go over color matches and similar versions of Peignoir from other brands, including Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Valspar, and Behr!
What Color is Farrow & Ball Peignoir?
Peignoir is a true chameleon! It can range in appearance from a cool misty purple…

To a pinky beige…

And stop by mushroom on the way!

Of Peignoir, Farrow & Ball says this:
“Created by giving the softest of pinks a big dose of grey, Peignoir has a unique depth which brings walls to life.”
– F&B
I tend to agree that this is quite a unique color! Much like Sulking Room Pink, Peignoir plays around with a neutral that isn’t a traditional gray or beige.
I find that most often the mix of gray and pink creates a taupey shade with a purple undertone.

The “Science” of Color Matching Peignoir
It’s very important to know that Farrow & Ball are full of secrets. They do not share any of their color information online, so we do not have “official” hex codes, RGB, or even LRV for Peignoir.
One would assume that the color on the web page would be the right hex code, and yet it’s very different from the thumbnail on other parts of the website:

A third hex code is available across several unrelated sites, but this one is also quite different, and actually less similar than the two on Farrow & Ball’s own website.
I decided to eliminate the one publicly available hex code and instead choose a color right in between the two colors on the Farrow & Ball site:

If you want to use this color code instead of one of the actual matches we are going to look at, the hex value I came up with is #CEC1BE. The LRV for Peignoir is approx 52 – 56.
Getting to the point: This color code is the one that I will use when I’m comparing similar colors from other brands. Some of the dupes may end better matches for one shade or the other, since Farrow & Ball themselves show slightly different colors around their site.
It’s very important to note that the best color match isn’t necessarily the same lightness as Peignoir, but rather the same overall look and tone.
The Benjamin Moore Version of Peignoir
Benjamin Moore has three color matches that are close enough to Peignoir, but not exact.

Benjamin Moore Homespun Charm (1249)
Homespun Charm is a little bit less gray and a little bit more purple than Peignoir.

Benjamin Moore Lost Locket (CSP-410)
Having taken a scroll through all of these colors in real life, I think that Lost Locket is the best dupe from Benjamin Moore. It may be a bit darker but the actual color appears very similar.

Lost Locket is also a hair less gray than Peignoir, but overall it’s a great color match. The feeling is definitely the same.
Benjamin Moore Porcelain (2113-60)
Despite the curious name, Benjamin Moore Porcelain is a mauvey neutral and not a creamy white or even an off-white.

Porcelain is lighter than Peignoir and more gray. Benjamin Moore describes Porcelain as a dusty lilac.
The Sherwin Williams Version of F&B Peignoir
The Sherwin Williams Peignoir alternatives ended up looking a lot like the Benjamin Moore ones! Here are three close color matches that all get the job done in slightly different ways:

None of these colors are particular popular, so it’s hard to get a great idea of how they look. Personally I might go with Artistic Taupe because it has more of the warm neutral undertone that Peignoir has.
Sherwin Williams Studio Mauve (SW 0062)
Studio Mauve is darker and more purple than Peignoir. Technically it is also a little bit more gray, but that will mostly come across as a stronger purple undertone.

Sherwin Williams Artistic Taupe (SW 6030)
Artisitc Taupe is the darkest of the Sherwin Williams options, but it’s also very close to Peignor in terms of color family.

This shade is a little less gray than Peignoir, so you may find that it reads a little bit warmer. This is a great option if you wanted a little less of the cool purple undertone.
Sherwin Williams Vaguely Mauve (SW 6015)
Vaguely Mauve is a little bit lighter and more purple than Peignoir.

I would definitely swatch this one, because it might read a bit babyish rather than sophisticated mauvey-neutral.
The Behr Equivalent to Farrow & Ball Peignoir
From Behr there is a standout winning dupe for Peignoir with their shade Malt.

However! Behr also had the closest color matches yet, and I already had to sift through them all, so I thought I would include the other two as well!
Behr Malt (720A-3)
Overall I would say that Malt reads a whiff lighter and warmer than Peignoir. It is also a pinch less gray.

Behr Ash Rose (N130-2)
Ash Rose is also less gray and a little less purple than Peignoir, but more so than Malt.

Honestly this is a very good color match too, so I recommend grabbing testers from all three to see which you like best.
At the end of the day it’s more about what color you like in your home that is inspired by Peignoir, and less about which color is a hair closer to a color match.
Behr Down Home (780A-3)
Down Home is darker and less purple than Peignoir, but more muted than the other two Behr dupes.

This is a great option if neutrality is most important to you.
Valspar Peignoir Dupe – Seagull Beach (1002-10B)
Valspar really only had one color that was close enough to the right tone of Peignoir, and that was their shade called Seagull Beach.

Seagull Beach is darker and warmer than Peignoir, but not too far off. This is a really beautiful color in its own right! It strikes a great balance between berry and neutral.
If that’s all a bit overwhelming, here are all of my personal favorite matches for Peignoir:

My favorites definitely skewed darker, but Peignoir is quite a light neutral, so it can handle being matched a little dark!
Thank you so much for reading until the end. That really helps my blog! I hope you found a solid alternative to Peignoir, and if you’re still undecided, I’ve got more! :
