Sherwin Williams Anonymous looks as mysterious as it sounds! This moody brown, green, gray (or something in between?), has bags of appeal and an expensive feel.

Here we will talk a little bit about the undertones of Anonymous, and then go over coordinating color ideas, including suggestions from Sherwin Williams themselves!
What Are the Undertones of Sherwin Williams Anonymous (SW 7046)
Anonymous is a darker mid-toned greige that typically has a green undertone, but it can also read bronzey. You might hear it described as a taupe, which isn’t wrong, but it doesn’t have what I think of as a typical taupey undertone.

At it’s coolest, Anonymous can look like a silvery charcoal, but it stops short of ever having a taupey purple undertone.
If this color looks familiar to you, it’s probably because you can find it on the same color strip as fan favorites Urbane Bronze and Porpoise:

Here are the coordinating colors that I like with Anonymous:

I do think that all neutral is the way to go with this color, because the undertone is a little bit unpredictable. This also allows Anonymous to be the star!
Coordinating White Paint Color for Anonymous
For a luxurious white to go with the sumptuous depth of Anonymous, I recommend Benjamin Moore White Dove.

White Dove is creamy but pretty neutral, and it has a complementary undertone for the subtle green in Anonymous.

For an off white, try Sherwin Williams Oyster White:

Oyster White is an off-white, but neutral enough to also read true white sometimes. It would be a nice wall color wherever you find Anonymous to be too dark.
Try Anonymous with Sherwin Williams Grassland
I wanted to try Anonymous with something blue, but I just couldn’t get the right vibe. Instead I decided to pivot and look for a nice wheat color, which I found in Sherwin Williams Grassland.

Grassland is somewhere between a neutral beige and a sage green. It’s kind of like a warm muted sage. It’s not exactly a lighter version of Anonymous, but like a best friend. It has the same sort-of-brown, sort-of-green quality, but without ever leaning gray.

Neutral Paint Color to Use with Anonymous
We sort of covered neutral pairings already in a few different flavors, but how about a dark option?

Sherwin Williams Black Magic is a true black, but slightly softer than an inky black like Tricorn Black.
I like the vintagey idea of pairing an ever-so-slightly faded black with the moody bronze of Anonymous and a creamy white. It’s quite a cozy palette, but make it elevated.
Sherwin Williams Recommends These Coordinating Colors for Anonymous
Let’s take a look at the colors that Sherwin Williams suggests you use with Anonymous:

Pair Anonymous and Sherwin Williams Polvo de Oro (But Maybe Don’t…)
Let’s get the elephant out of the way, shall we?

I really try to get behind the Sherwin Williams suggestions, or at least see where they’re coming from, but this has to be the paint equivalent to getting dressed in the dark…right?
Polvo de Oro is a soft tangerine color that (in my opinion) should only be paired with Anonymous if you are sponge painting a fruit mural…and the greenery is meant to look dead.
Sorry that’s harsh. Anyway…
Use Anonymous with Sherwin Williams Muslin
Muslin is a soft lineny-beige that is technically a tiny bit too dark to be classed as an off-white, but it still has that look.

I definitely think Muslin works with Anonymous, but you should be prepared for it to emphasize the gray and green and not as much the warmth or bronzey-ness.
Try Anonymous with Sherwin Williams Shoji White
Fun fact: I actually had Shoji White in my color palette too, but I ended up switching it out for the slightly more neutral Oyster White.

Shoji White is a creamy off-white that is still pretty neutral and can be tricked into looking like an actual white.
I love this soft white and it pairs beautifully with Anonymous!
