Sage green and contrasting trim are both having a moment, so why not merge the two trends, and use sage green on your trim?
Here we will see 9 beautiful sage green paint colors that look expensive and sophisticated on trim, doors, and any other woodwork you have!
Benjamin Moore Fieldstone
Fieldstone is the first color that came to mind when I was thinking about sage greens that look fabulous on trim!
This silvery sage color can lean either quite gray or quite green. It’s not too dark or too bright, so it’s a softer transition with white walls.
Meridith (@lexstyleanddesign) used Fieldstone for the trim and door in this room with Benjamin Moore Simply White walls.
Eventually Meredith wallpapered this space, which took the green in Fieldstone to the next level.
Perhaps the best thing about Fieldstone is that it is quite underused. I’m a bit of a hipster, and I like colors that nobody else has heard of. If you are the same, Fieldstone will have you feeling quite smug!
Benjamin Moore Caldwell Green
Caldwell Green is the most saturated sage green on this list. This color is like a jewel toned version of sage.
Christina (@ourbouldlife) used Caldwell Green on the trim and wainscoting in her bathroom remodel. For the walls, she used her favorite white: Benjamin Moore White Dove. You can see that color throughout her home.
Caldwell Green ranges in appearance from a mid-toned sage green to a deeper muted emerald. This is a great choice if you don’t ever want your trim to look gray or beige.
Sherwin Williams Svelte Sage
From one of the brightest sages to one of the most muted! Sherwin Williams Svelte Sage is a warm and subdued sage that barely looks green on the color chip:
Only on the wall does it reveal it’s true green undertone. Here it on not just the trim, but also the door and wall in a bedroom:
The top part of that wall is Sherwin Williams Shoji White. (If you like this look where the walls, trim, and doors are all the same, check out my post: Color Drenching Will Make Any Space Luxurious)
Here is another look not necessarily on trim, but on beadboard:
Meagan from @badgerhouseinteriors created this focal point in her entry way. She chose Svelte Sage to balance out some of the red tones in her wood floors. (I believe the walls are BM White Dove again, because that is most of her home.)
Again, not trim exactly, but you can see a nice long strip of Svelte Sage in this laundry room:
Against the gray wall color, Svelte Sage looks a little bit warmer and more yellow leaning. Did I originally think this beautiful room at @highland.haven was a kitchen? Yes. Is it bigger than any kitchen I’ve ever had? Also yes.
You can see that this sage green works really well with the red and orange tones in the brick floors, just as Meagan said!
Farrow & Ball Pigeon
If you want a true sage green, you might want to pass on Farrow & Ball’s curiously named Pigeon. This color certainly can look sage, but it can also run the full range from gray green to gray blue.
If you’re not stuck on a very green sage color, I love every look that Pigeon has.
This beautiful historical home (@1870customhouse) was once a post office! Today the stately building has been transformed into a single family home with impressively high ceilings. The walls are Benjamin Moore Simply White again, and F&B Pigeon is featured on accents throughout the home.
Here you can see the more blue-leaning look to Pigeon:
In this design by Carly (@homestyle_bycarly) we see Pigeon on board and batten, which helps us visualize trim pretty well:
For the wall color, Carly went with Egyptian Cotton by Dulux, which is very similar to Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray.
Sherwin Williams Link Gray
Link Gray is the other color on this list that doesn’t identify 100% as a green. It is however, 100% a beautiful color for your trim!
It can look sage green, as we see here on trim and beadboard in a mudroom at @the.noble.home:
The off white wall color here is Benjamin Moore Dove Wing. Link Gray also looks pretty sage here:
This color can range in appearance from what you see here, to something akin to charcoal with a greeny blue undertone. Link Gray is a great choice if you are less set on a traditional sage, and open to any interesting and moody gray green.
Sherwin Williams Acacia Haze or Retreat
Sherwin Williams Acacia Haze is one of two colors that I would recommend if you want a spot-on traditional sage color that goes with anything.
The other color? Sherwin Williams Retreat which is just one shade darker on the same color strip (and the reason I’m putting them together) :
Lindsay from @silo.hill, used Acacia Haze on the trim and beadboard in this bathroom:
The small wall is SW Extra White and the cabinetry is stock from the manufacturer, in a similar color to Sherwin Williams Aesthetic White.
Acacia Haze and Retreat are both easy colors to use because they are pretty predictable. I don’t find that they lean particularly green or gray, nor do they change much in different lighting, they are just nice typical sages.
I don’t have any images of Retreat on trim specifically, so this one of woodwork will have to do:
Sherwin Williams Escape Gray
Lindsay loved her Acacia Haze bathroom so much that she recreated the look in a flip house, this time using Sherwin Williams Escape Gray.
The white wall color in this room is Sherwin Williams Alabaster.
You might recognize Escape Gray from the Evergreen Fog and Rosemary color strip. (Also great sage greens – but not on this list.)
Escape Gray ranges in appearance from a pretty typical sage green to a slightly more gray version of that. This is a nice cooler option that doesn’t shift into blue territory at all.
Corinna (@interiors_by_corinna) also used the subtle sage of Escape Gray on woodwork:
Sherwin Williams Clary Sage
Clary Sage is a warmer sage green that is still a pretty typical sage color. It is also one of the more popular sage colors for trim that Sherwin Williams offers.
Here we can see it on wainscoting with clean white walls:
Over in the @littlelincolnbungalow it has been used masterfully with this fun and funky wallpaper:
Clary Sage ranges in appearance from a true sage that is neither cool or warm, to an almost spring green version of sage.
Clary Sage would be a good choice if you want a lighter mid-toned sage without silver or gray tones.
Benjamin Moore Sag Harbor Gray
Sag Harbor Gray is tied with Svelte Sage as the warmest sage green on this list. What looks pretty beige on the swatch turns into a lovely autumn sage on walls and trim.
Christina used Sag Harbor Gray for all of the trim and wainscoting in this living room…:
…and finished off the look by painting the beams. Just like the rest of her home, the white paint is Benjamin Moore White Dove. (Seemingly pretty popular with sage green trim!)
