8 Coordinating Colors to Use With Blue Heather by Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore Blue Heather is a blue-gray paint color that ranges in appearance from silver to a dusty blue. Here we will explore coordinating colors for this shade, and take a look at a few color palettes!

What Are the Undertones of Benjamin Moore Blue Heather?

Some might say that Blue Heather has gray undertones, but since this color is a gray blue, I wouldn’t call the gray an undertone. Rather this is an upfront dusty blue that can look quite gray or silver.

When it comes to undertones, Blue Heather is more likely to lean periwinkle than green.

Benjamin Moore Blue Heather in a Color Palette

I made a couple of different color palettes for Blue Heather because there were colors I wanted to use but not necessarily all together!

This first one is all colors that should help Blue Heather look more blue as opposed to gray:

When you want to emphasize the blue in a blue gray color:

    • Use warm tones (which will complement blue) OR
    • Use colors that are more gray than the blue gray you are using

Coordinating White Paint Color for Blue Heather

I recommend using the tried and true Benjamin Moore Simply White with Blue Heather.

Simply White is a little bit creamy, but it is very much a bright white. The creamy undertone will emphasize and complement the blue tones in Blue Heather.

    Try Blue Heather with Soot

Benjamin Moore Soot is a charcoal with blue undertones.

Even though it has blue undertones, Soot is much more gray than Blue Heather. The undertones work well together, but the extra gray in Soot should help Blue Heather look blue.

Neutral Paint Color to Use with Blue Heather

For a blue-emphasizing neutral, I chose the gray of Benjamin Moore Smoke Embers, which is both warmer and more gray than Blue Heather:

Smoke Embers is actually a dupe for Sherwin Williams Light French Gray, which I have covered a little bit here.

For my next Blue Heather color palette I did a mix of creamy colors and blues:

Warm Neutral Paint Color to Use with Blue Heather

If you don’t want to go more gray than Blue Heather, try a truly warm neutral like Benjamin Moore Dove Wing.

Dove Wing is actually an off-white, so it will keep your color scheme light and bright! This is perfect for a country cottage or beach house aesthetic.

Use Blue Heather with Van Deusen Blue

To help Blue Heather lean a little more gray, try using it with a more saturated blue. It can be a little tricky to get the undertone right, but Benjamin Moore Van Deusen Blue works well with Blue Heather:

To illustrate the point, see how Blue Heather looks much more blue surrounded by Smoke Embers, and more gray with Van Deusen Blue:

For something in between Soot and Van Deusen Blue, you might also like Benjamin Moore Evening Dove. It’s a dark gray blue that is less charcoal than Soot but more gray than Van Deusen.

Benjamin Moore Recommends These Coordinating Colors for Blue Heather

I always come up with my own palette before I look at the manufacturer’s suggestions, but this time we were surprisingly close!

Benjamin Moore suggests this color palette for Blue Heather:

Benjamin Moore recommended Blue Heather in a color palette with Paper White, October Sky, and Ashland Slate over a background of a blue shelving unit with spices and coffee arranged on it.

Try Blue Heather with October Sky

Benjamin Moore October Sky is a creamy color with a bold peach undertone. It’s very close to a lighter version of Sherwin Williams Casa Blanca.

Orange is opposite from blue on the color wheel, so that makes peachy October Sky a perfect complement for Blue Heather, while being more palatable than a true orange.

Pair Blue Heather and Ashland Slate

Benjamin Moore Ashland Slate is a dark gray with strong blue undertones. It’s pretty similar to Sherwin Williams Peppercorn.

I would expect Ashland Slate to look almost monochromatic with Blue Heather. It does normally pull a lot more blue in real life than on the Swatch. (Just like Peppercorn!)

Use Blue Heather with Paper White

Benjamin Moore Paper White is a grayish off white that often has subtle warmth from a slight green undertone. It’s very similar to Sherwin Williams Ethereal White or Behr Irish Mist.

This color can also look like a true gray, so you will want to test it out in your space. Personally, I think that this could make a nice exterior paint and trim combo.

Blues and greens are next to each other on the color wheel, so Paper White makes good sense. You could also use Blue Heather with any number of sage greens.

Color palette for Benjamin Moore Blue Heather features that color alongside Soot, Smoke Embers, Simply White, Dove Wing, Van Deusen Blue, October Sky, Paper White, and Ashland Slate, all on paint lids scattered over a blue and white marbled background.

What is the Difference Between Benjamin Moore Blue Heather and Sherwin Williams Upward?

If you’ve seen the Sherwin Williams “Color of the Year” from 2024, you may be thinking that Blue Heather looks pretty familiar!

SW Upward is also a dusty blue with peri-leaning undertones. It is a little bit lighter than Blue Heather, but otherwise nearly identical in tone and saturation.

I hope this helped you dream up a Blue Heather color scheme that is just right for your home!
